    On Friday, April 17th, 2020 J. Elie Melanson passed away at home at the age of 88.
    Elie was born on January 20th, 1932 in Saulnierville to the late Adolphe and Elizabeth (LeBlanc) Melanson.
    On November 19th, 1955 he married Shirley Esther Smith of Weymouth North. Together, they raised four children, Paul, Gerald, Therese and Cecile.
    At a young age, Elie worked on the Railroad, then proceeded as manager at Clarence?s, manager at Frenchy?s, E.M. Comeau Sawmill and, before retirement, Atlantic Paving. He had a passion for music and nature. He loved playing the harmonica and he loved it in the woods whether it was to log or for walks. His great knowledge and ambitions will forever be remembered by his family and friends.
    Elie was predeceased by his sister, Philomene Saulnier, and his brother, Alphonse Melanson. He is survived by his wife, Shirley; his children, Paul (Leone) Melanson, Gerald (Leanne) Melanson, Therese (Larry) Townsend, and Cecile (Bill Blue) McCaughey; grandchildren, Nicole (Robert), Colette, Travis, Ben, Zach and Dalton; great-grandchildren, Tyson, Julia and Ashton; siblings, Louise Comeau, Blanche Comeau, Henry Melanson, Lydia Saulnier, Theodore Melanson and Antoinette Theriault.
    Cremation has taken place under the care of Meteghan Funeral Home. Due to the Covid-19 Pandemic, a private graveside service will be held in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Saulnierville, officiated by Rev. Honoré Kouassi. Donations in Elie?s memory may be made to Victorian Order of Nurses or Digby/Clare Home Support Agency.

    SAULNIER, Philomene - 80, Saulnierville Station, passed away June 9, 2006, in Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Born in Saulnierville, she was a daughter of the late Adolphe and Elizabeth (LeBlanc) Melanson. Philomene was well-known for her generosity in many different organizations and helped many people along her way. She was an executive member of the Clare Unit Canadian Cancer Society for many years, mostly services to patients, and was chosen volunteer of the year for the municipality of Clare. She was also the recipient of the Silver & Gold pins, and was very dedicated to the Lodge that Gives. Philomene was a life member of the Royal Canadian Legion Clare Branch No. 52, a member and past president of the Ladies Auxiliary which she was very proud of. She was a volunteer at our local radio station CIFA; devoted member of the Clare Seniors Club and a member of Sacred Heart Church, Saulnierville. Surviving are her husband, Charles; brothers, Henri (Ruth) Melanson, Saulnierville; Elie (Shirley) Melanson, Saulnierville; Theodore (Jacqueline) Melanson, Saulnierville; Alphonse (Elaine) Melanson, Meteghan River; sisters, Louise (Daniel) Comeau, Saulnierville; Blanche (Desire) Comeau, Meteghan River; Lydie (Thomas) Saulnier, Saulnierville; Antoinette (Eddie) Theriault, Little Brook; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by son, Thomas. Visitation was held Sunday in Meteghan Funeral Home. Funeral service 11 a.m. today in Sacred Heart Church, Saulnierville, where a Legion service will follow, Rev. Edgar Mvubu officiating. Interment in the parish cemetery. Donations may be made to Canadian Cancer Society.

    COMEAU, Louise ? Age 95, of Bangor, passed away Monday, July 13, 2020 at home. Born in Bangor, she was a daughter of the late Adolphe and Elizabeth (LeBlanc) Melanson.

    Our mom was one of the first employees of Frenchy?s and worked for CP Rail as a cook. She wrote many songs such as ?A Bangor Y Fait Beau? and ?Le Moulin De Bangor?. She loved music and she came from a musical family. She was an avid quilter, card player and dancer. She also built her own house with the help of her brothers. She was a jack of all trades. She perked right up when her family from Louisiana came for their annual visit. Our mom was a hard-working woman who instilled her values in her children and their families.

    She is survived by children, Joanne (Jerry) Belliveau, Hélène (Gary Brown), Russell (Gisèle), Ted, Gene (Ronald) LeBlanc, Lydie (Greg Gaudett); brother, Théodore (Jacqueline) Melanson; sisters, Blanche (Désiré) Comeau, Lydia Saulnier, Antoinette Theriault; sisters-in-law, Shirley Melanson, Elaine Melanson;14 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great-grandchildren.

    She was predeceased by husband, Daniel; son Jacky; brothers, Henri, Elie, Alphonse; sister, Philomène Saulnier.

    Cremation has taken place under the care of Meteghan Funeral Home. A private funeral mass will be held at a later date in Église Sacré-Coeur, Saulnierville, officiated by Rev. Mathieu Agbaya & Rev. Honoré Kouassi with interment to follow in parish cemetery. Donations may be made to Jacky Comeau and Friends Cancer Help Fund Association*.

    The family wishes to thank Home Care and VON, Dr. Alain Blinn and EHS Paramedics for the care provided to their mother. We will miss our mom but the memories will keep us going forever. Love you always and rest in peace with dad and Jacky

    Lucie Gaudet born on Sept 13, 1925 of St. Bernard Digby Co., passed away peacefully on Feb 6, surrounded by her family. She had a heart of gold and a million dollar smile. She was a very strong woman, widowed at 40 with 5 children, the oldest dying 2 years later of cancer. Through it all she kept up her spirits. She had a home filled with good food, music and fun. She kept busy with her many crafts, her gift shop "Lucie's Circle Drive" and her volunteer projects helping people out. Lucie is survived by brother, Bertie; daughters, Yvonne (Curtis) and Mae; sons, Robert and Philippe; grandchildren, Andrea, Denise (Craig), Josette (Eric), Jean Paul and Marie Andrée; great-grandsons, 2 sets of twins Thomas, Ethan, Oliver, Elliott. Thank you to the staff at the Yarmouth Hospital for keeping Mom comfortable for her last few days. BIG thank you to home support workers for all the love and care you gave her. Thank you friends for all the support. As per her wishes cremation has taken place under the direction of Jayne's Funeral Home, Weymouth. No visitation by request. Graveside service 2pm March 2, from St. Bernard Roman Catholic Cemetery. A celebration of life will be held following the graveside service at Chez Jean, Belliveau Cove.
