    Age 95, formerly of Meteghan River, passed away Friday, October 11, 2019 in La Villa Acadienne, Meteghan. Born July 13, 1924, in Meteghan River, he was a son of the late Agapite "Capit" H. and Elizabeth (Melanson) Comeau. After attending the local

Born July 13, 1924, in Meteghan River, he was a son of the late Agapite "Capit" H. and Elizabeth (Melanson) Comeau. After attending the local school, he entered St. Anne's College in Church Point, graduating with a B.A. degree in 1946. He then studied for the priesthood at Holy Heart Seminary in Halifax and was ordained a Roman Catholic priest on March 25, 1950 by Bishop Leverman. He served as assistant in the Halifax Archdiocese at Saint Mary's Basilica and Saint Lawrence, Fairview. Transferred in 1954 to the newly-formed Yarmouth diocese. He served for short periods in Kentville, Sainte-Anne-du-Ruisseau and at Saint Patrick, Digby. From there he was named pastor of Saint Alphonse and then to the neighboring parish, Saint-Vincent-de-Paul, Salmon River in Clare. He was rector at Saint Ambrose Cathedral, Yarmouth for two years. Appointed pastor of Stella Maris Parish, Meteghan, he soon was entrusted to build the present church in the center of the village. After one year as pastor of Amiraults Hill and Surette's Island, Yarmouth Co., he returned for a second and last term to Saint-Vincent-de-Paul and Hectanooga retiring in June 2000 after 50 years of active ministry and took residence in his small home in Meteghan River. On this and other occasions, he was recognized by public officials for his lifelong contributions to the Acadian culture using different tools of popular media. He was predeceased by sisters, Alda and Yvonne in infancy, Lucille; brothers, Bernard, Rev. Delbé, Ralph, Delphis, Mederic and Fred. He is survived by brother, Désiré (Blanche), Meteghan River; 30 nephews and nieces. Prayer vigil will be held Tuesday, October 15th starting at 7 p.m. in Église Sacré-Coeur, Saulnierville, where funeral will take place the following day at 11 a.m. with Rev. Pierre Drouin officiating, with reception to follow in the parish hall. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. Donations may be made to Église Sacré-Coeur, Saulnierville.

    Born in Meteghan River, he was a son of the late Agapit and Elizabeth (Melanson) Comeau. Bernard was a veteran of the Second World War and a life member of The Lincoln and Welland Regiment, St. Catharines, Ontario. He was also a life member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Clare Branch #52, Saulnierville. He was a founding member of La Caisse Populaire de Saulnierville and a 4-H Club counsellor for many years. Bernard owned and operated The Comeau?s Garage for 25 years after which he pursued a career as a marine engineer aboard the M/V Bluenose until his retirement. In his later years, he loved to travel on organized senior tours.

Jacqueline (daughter of Edouard Joseph Geddry and Leah Comeau) was born 1 Aug 1920; died 9 Mar 2016, Yarmouth, Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, Canada; was buried , Sacré-Coeur/Sacred Heart Cemetery - Saulnierville, Digby Co., Nova Scotia.
