Joseph died at 47 years of age.
He was the son of Firmin Landry & Francois Elizabeth Thibodeau, both of Pisiguit, Cobequid in Acadia.

Joseph, at age 2 years, along with his family was exiled by the British (during the Great Expulsion) from Pisiguit Acadia to Oxford Maryland in Talbot County. He arrived in Louisiana in 1766 with widowed father, brother and sisters; settled at St. Martin Parish.

He married Marie-Anne Melancon of Maryland, daughter of Paul Melancon and Marie Theriot. She was born ca. 1760, died 11-4-1805 at 45 years of age. She is buried at St. Martin Church cemetery.

Corporal Joseph's name is among those listed on the Monument of Commemoration at St. Martinville, La. honoring him as an officer and patriot of the American Revolution, Attakapas Militia of enlisted men...commemorating their successful march to and capture of Baton Rouge and Manchac September 1779. The monument with marker is located next to St. Martin of Tours Church. The marker was placed by Louisiana Society, Daughters Of The American Revolution. The monument was placed by Louisiana District II Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus.

Parents immigrated to Louisiana from Maryland. Her father was very young when his family was deported by the British from Acadia to Maryland. Her father is on Wall of Names at the Acadian Memorial in St. Martinville, Louisiana. Her mother was born in Maryland during the exile.
* Birth year is incorrect in her birth record. A transcription of the original register sent in Sep 2001 says the birthdate is really given as 24 Dec 1778.

Marie Elise (Doralise) Landry, daughter of Joseph and Marie Anne Melanson, was born 24 Dec 1797 in LA; Christened 4 Nov 1805 St. Martinville, St. Martin, LA[1] Elise died 19 Feb 1878 in Vermilion Parish and was buried in Abbeville, Vermilion Parish. The parish records notes she was 80 years old, so born 1797-1798[2]There was a probate of her father's estate on 10 Sep 1800, Doralise was named last indicating she was the youngest of the ten children.[3]
