      Michael J. "Mike" Guiney, 94, died May 12, 2001, at his Lakeview home.

      Holy rosary services will be held at 7 p.m. today in St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Lakeview. Mass of Christian burial will be held there at 11 a.m. Wednesday. Father Raymond Hopp will be the celebrant. Interment will follow at Sunset Cemetery, Lakeview. Ousley Osterman Huffstutter's Funeral Chapel, Lakeview, is in charge of arrangements.

      Mr. Guiney was born July 24, 1906, in Kiskeam Knocknanaugh, County Cork, Ireland, to Denis and Julia (O'Keeffe) Guiney.

      He was raised and educated in Kiskeam and, when 19 years old, moved to the United States, living in Chicago until moving to Lakeview in 1931.

      He married May Daly in Alturas on Nov. 23, 1931.

      Mr. Guiney was employed as a grader in lumber mills until retiring in 1972.

      Among his interests were hunting, reading and the outdoors.

      He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church; the Knights of Columbus, for which he served as grand knight; the Lakeview Elks Lodge; the Lakeview Eagles Lodge, for which he served as worthy president and treasurer; and the Ancient Order of Hibernians.

      Survivors include his daughters and sons-in-law, Sheila and Robert Hill of Eugene and Birdie and David DuBose of Lake Havasu City, Ariz.; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

      He was preceded in death by his wife on June 13, 1993, three sisters and three brothers.
