    • GARDNER ? Edmond J. ?Eddy? Johnson, 78, of 95 Bayberry Lane, Gardner, formerly of 189 Woodland Avenue, Gardner, died suddenly Tuesday, August 26, 2014, after being stricken ill.

      Born in Gardner on October 12, 1935, he was the son of the late Joseph and Marie (Richard) Johnson.

      Edmond was a Police Officer employed by the City of Gardner for 30 years, retiring in 1990.

      He graduated from Gardner High School, Gardner with the Class of 1954.

      Edmond was a United States Korean War Air Force Veteran and received the Good Conduct Medal.

      He was a member of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church of Gardner. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 129 of Gardner and the Massachusetts Police Association.

      He was an avid wood carver and wood worker. Eddy treasured time spent with his family.

      He leaves his wife of 54 years, Rita C. (Martin) Johnson of Gardner; four sons, Martin J. Johnson and his wife, Donna of Winchendon, Mark R. Johnson and his wife, Denise of Athol, Paul R. Johnson of Gardner and Thomas E. Johnson and his wife, Rachel of Templeton; one brother, Lorenzo J. Johnson and his wife, Mary-Jane of Champagne, Ill.; one sister, Leola Johnson of St. Las Cruces, New Mexico; twelve grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

      Funeral services will be held Friday, August 29, 2014 from the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols Street, Gardner with a mass at 12:00 p.m. in Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, 135 Nichols Street, Gardner. Burial will be at a later date in Notre Dame Cemetery, Gardner.

      Calling hours will be Friday, August 29, 2014 from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. in the funeral home.
