  • Notes
    • Ancestor Joseph Trahan was an Acadian born in the village of Grand Pre where he married in 1725 and where all of his children were born. He was about 50 years of age when Grand Pre was captured. The Trahan family was deported to Virginia where his wife (Elizabeth Theriot) died. Virginia rejected the Acadians so they were sent to England. Trahan died in the following year while in detention at Liverpool. I descend from two of his daughters, Francoise (1737) and Madeleine (1741). Both married while in England but migrated to France in 1763. These two daughters immigrated to Louisiana in 1785. • Joseph is the son of Jean-Charles Trahan and Marie Boudreau. He married Elisabeth Theriault on 12 November 1725, in Grand-Pré, Acadie. They are the parents of the following:
      1) Charles (1730-1785) md Marie-Anne-Madeleine Landry
      2) Marie (1732-1794) md (a) Francois Granger and (b) Simon Leblanc
      3) Elisabeth (1746-1784) md Pierre Theriault

Elisabeth died off the coast of Virginia, where they were sent in exile. Virginia refused to accept the Acadians, so they were sent on to England, where they were treated as prisoners of war. They were imprisoned in coastal detention centers, where they remained during the whole Seven Years War. Joseph died while a prisoner in exile.

Joseph is the brother of Pierre Trahan who also died in exile.
