After a brief battle with lung cancer, Ruth passed away peacefully in her home. Born and raised in Chicago, IL, daughter of Eleanor & John McHugh, she joins her son Terry, and four of her seven siblings in heaven.
Having lived a very full life, Ruth is best known for being a quick-witted, strong, and patient mother of nine children, a consistent and giving parishioner and choir member at Queen of Apostles Church, a steadfast community volunteer, an excellent bridge player, a fierce grammarian, and a loyal friend to many.
Ruth is survived by her husband of 62 years, John Thomas (Tom) Powers, and children Jack, Kevin (Lisa), Tim, Brian (Kim), Neil (Karol), Maureen, Shannon London (Bill), & Megan. She was a loving grandmother of 13, and great-grandmother of three.
Her memorial service is Sat., Dec. 12, at 12pm at Queen of Apostles; 4911 Moorpark Avenue. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to American Cancer Society in Ruth's memory.
