According to Stephen A White, Acadian Landry's can trace their roots through two Landry's both named Rene. And this Landry is the progenitor of all Landry's in the Maritime provinces.

René married Marie Bernard 1659, Port, Ain, Auvergne, France. Marie (daughter of Charles Bernard and Andree Guyon) was born About 1645, Beauvoir-sur-Mer, Vendée, Pays de la Loire, France; died 10 Jan 1719, Port Royal, Annapolis County, Nova Scotia, Canada; was buried 11 Jan 1719, Annapolis Royal, Nova Scotia, British Colonial America. The exact name of Marie and Jeanne Bernard's father is heavily debated. All evidence says it is not Rene or Andre so do not change the name unless you have discovered some new evidence that dozens of scholars have not found in decades of searching. The strongest evidence suggests his name was Charles. There is a marriage record in France for Charles Bernard and Andree Guyon, but it is still unclear if this was the same Andree Guyon. A profile for Charles Bernard as the spouse of Andree Guyon is linked to her profile so his information can be documented. Perhaps mtDNA evidence will someday allow us to link our Andree Guyon to the Thyphaine Pannier maternal line in France. Until then it is best to leave the given name blank.

    Notes:

Jean Blanchard, the actual progenitor of the Blanchards of Acadia, born in France in c1611, was one of the earliest settlers in the colony. At age 31, he married 21-year-old Radégonde Lambert at Port-Royal in c1642. Radegonde gave Jean six children, including two sons who created their own families. Their daughters married into the Gaudet, Guérin, and Richard dit Sansoucy families. Radegonde died at Port-Royal in the 1670s or 1680s, leaving Jean a widower. He never remarried. He died at Port-Royal on his homestead next to the fort in the early 1690s; he was over 80 years old.

In 1671 Jean Blanchard, age 60 was living in Port Royal with his wife, Radegonde LAMBERT and their unmarried children Guillaume 21, Bernard 18, Marie 15. At that time they owned 12 cattle and 9 sheep. (Source: Acadian Census 1671).

An error in Jean LeBlanc's deposition at Belle-Ile-en-Mer led Rameau de Saint-Pere to add a non-existent generation to the genealogy of the Blanchards. LeBlanc declared that the great-grandparents of his wife Francoise Blanchard were Guillaume Blanchard and Huguette Poirier, rather than Jean Blanchard and Radegonde Lambert, having confused the names of Martin Blanchard's brother and sister-in-law with those of this father and mother. Without proof, Rameau affirmed that Guillaume and Huguette had to be Martin Blanchard's grandparents, but no document is currently known that provides the names of Jean Blanchard's parents.

2 Dec 1705: Expropriation of a lot "adjoining the side of the old fort," and belonging to Jean Blanchard, for the extension of the fort at Port Royal. As Jean Blanchard had already been dead for over twelve years, one must suppose that his heirs were the actual owners of this land in 1705.?

Sixteen years or so later Jean and Radegonde were still living in Port Royal. (1686 census).

    Radegonde?s DNA

Several descendants of Radegonde Lambert through all females have had their mitochondrial DNA tested. Mitochondrial DNA is passed from the mother to both genders of their children, but only females pass it on.

In Radegonde?s case, her DNA, for several years, also proved as puzzling as the records regarding her birth and mother?s ethnicity. No one but Radegonde?s descendants seems to match her DNA. It?s like Radegonde wanted to play a joke on all of her descendants. And a fine job she did too!

Fortunately, that question has now been resolved, and Radegonde?s DNA, haplogroup X2b4, which is exceedingly rare ? as in chicken?s teeth rare ? is found only in Europeans, to date, and not in any Native people.

    Radegonde?s and Jehan Blanchard's children

Karen Theroit Reader provides Radegonde?s children, as shown below. In two census records, in both 1671 and 1678, Radegonde and her husband, Jean Blanchard, are living next door to their son, Guilliame Blanchard who was age 35 in 1686.

Madeleine Blanchard born about 1643, probably in Port Royal, died 1678-1684 and married Michel Richard. She had 10 children.
Anne Blanchard was born about 1645, probably in Port Royal, died after 1714 in Beaubassin and married first to Francois Guerin, having 5 children, then to Pierre l?aine Gaudet, having 9 children.
Martin Blanchard was born about 1647, probably in Port Royal and died after July 4, 1718 in Cobeguit. He married first to Marie Francoise Le Blanc having 3 children, then to Marguerite Guilbeau having 8 children.
The three children, above, would have been the three that were married by 1671. The three below would have been the children still at home.

Guillaume Blanchard, born about 1650, probably in Port Royal, died before October 18, 1717 and married Huguette Gougeon, having 12 children.
Bernard Blanchard born about 1653, probably in Port Royal and died after the 1671 census but before the 1686 census.
Marie Blanchard born about 1656, probably in Port Royal, died after 1701, married to Pierre le jeune Gaudet, having 10 children.

    ---

Due to the efforts of Isaac de Razilly (1587-1635) and his successor, Charles de Menou D'Aulnay (c.1604-1650)8, it has been estimated, that about 120 permanent inhabitants came to Nova Scotia during a ten year period between 1632 and 1642: the "Bretagne Colonists." Razilly made his first trip to Nova Scotia in 1632, coming out only with workmen, no families. At any rate, there is no record of Acadian families prior to 1636. Likely, there were a few French families established in Nova Scotia before 1636; and, where so, it is further likely, that the wife was a full blooded Micmac. The first French Acadian families (women and children) came over in 1636. The Saint Jehan, "under the command of Captain Saunic weighed anchor at La Rochelle April 1, 1636, carrying 78 passengers and 18 crewmen ..." A precious passenger list, of this voyage in 1636 has survived and has been published; it lists all the men and women who boarded the Saint-Jehan and includes names such as LeCreux (one of the leaders), Motin, Martin (farmer), LeMoine (farmer), Blanchard (vinegrower). Of this 1636 group, it would appear, out of 96, there were but eleven French women, I submit, the first ever to arrive and permanently settle in Acadia. The rest were workmen, most of whom would have returned back to France within a year or two of their arrival.
Thus the first Acadian families might have been found working and living, between the years 1632-1636, on the shores of the LaHave River (around the present day community of LaHave, Lunenburg). This first community, a dozen families, or so (there are no records), due to political reasons, were relocated to Port Royal sometime just after 1636. At any rate we pick up our story at Port Royal in 1640.
It is likely, that directly to Port Royal, René came out with his young wife Perrine (she was a Bourg, or a Bourc), together with their first born, a son, René, junior, b.c.1640. We now know that this couple were married in France, before they came out to the New World. The only other thing I might say of this first family, at this time, is that they were to have ten children, the four males being: René (b.1640), Pierre (b.1658), Antoine (b.1660), & Claude (b.1662). In the census of 1671, we can see Rene (age 52), Perrine and certain of their children listed, including: Pierre (age 13), Claude (age 8); they have 10 cattle and 6 sheep. In the census of 1678, we again see Rene and Perrine with their two boys Pierre and Claude, living on an acre of land, and 10 cattle.

    Notes:

There existed in Acadia, around 1690, three persons named Bernard: Marie, born in 1645 and married about 1659 to René Landry; Jeanne, born (no one knows when) and married about 1666 to Guyon Chiasson; and finally René, born in 1663 and married about 1689 to Madeleine Doucet. What kinship existed among these three individuals? René appears to have been a stranger to Marie and Jeanne, because, not being mentioned in the 1686 census, he seems only to have arrived at Beaubassin after that date, possibly at the instigation of M. de la Valliere. in any event, no dispensation for kinship among his descendants justifies the supposition that he was a relative of Marie and Jeanne.?

Note carefully that Jeanne and Marie were the daughters of Andreé Guyon and ______ Bernard, but that her unnamed husband died prior to her remarriage in 1650/51, when she is listed as a widow. Rene was born at least 12 years AFTER THE DEATH of Jeanne and Marie's father.

Charles married Andree Guyon About 1639, France. Andree (daughter of Pierre Guion and Marguerite Couillon) was born 5 Dec 1620, Saint-Jean-d'Angély, Charente-Maritime, France; was christened 1620, France; died 29 Aug 1686, Annapolis Royal (Annapolis), Annapolis, , Nova Scotia, Canada; was buried 1686, Annapolis Royal, Annapolis, Nova Scotia, Canada.
