The exact name of Marie and Jeanne Bernard's father is heavily debated. All evidence says it is not Rene or Andre so do not change the name unless you have discovered some new evidence that dozens of scholars have not found in decades of searching. The strongest evidence suggests his name was Charles. There is a marriage record in France for Charles Bernard and Andree Guyon, but it is still unclear if this was the same Andree Guyon. A profile for Charles Bernard as the spouse of Andree Guyon is linked to her profile so his information can be documented. Perhaps mtDNA evidence will someday allow us to link our Andree Guyon to the Thyphaine Pannier maternal line in France. Until then it is best to leave the given name blank.

  1. 2.  Charles Bernard was born About 1615, France; died 1664, Acadie, Nova Scotia, Canada.

    Notes:

There existed in Acadia, around 1690, three persons named Bernard: Marie, born in 1645 and married about 1659 to René Landry; Jeanne, born (no one knows when) and married about 1666 to Guyon Chiasson; and finally René, born in 1663 and married about 1689 to Madeleine Doucet. What kinship existed among these three individuals? René appears to have been a stranger to Marie and Jeanne, because, not being mentioned in the 1686 census, he seems only to have arrived at Beaubassin after that date, possibly at the instigation of M. de la Valliere. in any event, no dispensation for kinship among his descendants justifies the supposition that he was a relative of Marie and Jeanne.?

Note carefully that Jeanne and Marie were the daughters of Andreé Guyon and ______ Bernard, but that her unnamed husband died prior to her remarriage in 1650/51, when she is listed as a widow. Rene was born at least 12 years AFTER THE DEATH of Jeanne and Marie's father.
