    William had an illegitimate son George with Margaret AYTMAN before his marriage to Elizabeth and it was George (1795/96-1871) who remained in England.

    William had two sons with Elizabeth, John and William. William Jnr died as an infant on 27 January 1802. His mother preceded him by abt 6 weeks dying on 10 December 1801. John born 26 July 1799 married Sarah PURDY and died on 6 March 1845 in Surry, Hancock, Maine, USA.

    William had 8 children with Mary SIMPSON, the eldest of whom, Isabella 1803-1806, died as a toddler.

    John Archer, was born in Salop Co.,England (Shropshire), March 26, 1752. He served as both Private and Sergeant Major in Colonel John Allen's regiment, Artillery company and Capt. Thomas Robbins' and Capt. Jeremiah O'Brien's companies, Col. Allan's regiment in Machias during the Revolutionary War. He was on a list of men raised by the town of Newburyport for service in the Continental Army, where he is described as 28 yrs. of age, 5 ft. 8 in. tall, with a light complexion. On the 18th of November 1778, he married Elizabeth Gates Tupper, daughter of William Tupper and Margaret Gates of Jonesboro and Machias, Maine. They had twenty-three children, mostly sons, most of whom grew to maturity. He lived on the Beddington Road in Cherryfield on a place later occupied by his son, John.
