JOSEPH ALPHONSE COURVELLE & ENCARNACION YLDEFONSO CURBELO ARE THE SAME PERSON. HE MARRIED LORAINE A 17YO ORPHAN OF EUROPE. IT IS UNCLEAR AT THIS TIME HOW MANY OF THE 9 KIDS KEPT THE ORIGINAL NAME CURBELO OR THE NEW NAME COURVELLE. IT IS A FACT JOSEPH AND ELFEGE CHANGED THERE LAST NAME TO CORBELLO. Info written by Melvin Coy Corbello in the 1980's & found by I "mkc" Dec/2019. ~ My father "Columbus David Corbello" , uncle Forest, and aunts Fronnie & Laura told stories about Encarnacion. I was told Encarnacion was in the war for the south & was killed at a unknown date. Encarnacion 2 store log homestead sat about 50 yards from the English bayou, had a large barn, & large front porch. My father, 2 brothers, & 3 sisters were born in this house "there gran parents house". I was told by MR LeBlew (98 at the time) that Encarnacion would have a big barn dance several times a year. Encarnacion left the old Spain land grant for the land in San Antonio to his son Elfege "Elphege" corbello. Elfege left the grant to my father Columbus & he gave this to a Martin corbello just to hold on to while Columbus was in the army. He never picked it up when he got out in 1923. Martin was killed in WWII. In 1954 my dad and I went to see MRS. Martin corbello about the land grant but she said "NO" and made us leave. Time ran out so the grant is no longer valid. Columbus and I went to the old homestead to see what we could find "1954". I could see the old canal my grandfather "elfege" put in by hand that separated Elfege & Encarnacion land for rice stock. It was 12 ft x 6 ft and 3,300 ft long. I found what was left of the old bridge. 2 large post. We walked south and I saw part of a wall with a large window. It was the kitchen wall. A 20 ft west and 4 ft north wall was all that was left. Logs were 1 ft diameter. ...In a map Melvin drew it shows "in Lake Charles" Elfege property at the corner of Luke powers rd and Pujol rd going south almost to Mark LeBleu rd T junction and west half way between Pujol rd and the sharp south east bend in Luke Powers rd. Encarnacion land started at the most south west corner of Elfege property. His land went west to the sharp south east bend in Luke powers rd "but south of Elfege and fallowed English bayou to current day I-10 Pujol rd "mm 36" on ramp "but going around LeBlue Cemetery on the west".
