    STERLING ? Michael T. "Mac" McCarthy, 63, of Sterling passed away peacefully surrounded by family on March 20, 2010 after an illness. He is survived by his loving wife, Beverly (Caprera) McCarthy; his mother, Gloria L. McCarthy of Melrose; two sons, Brian M. McCarthy and his wife Kristin of Westbrook, ME and Navy Lt. Commander Gill Heinzkill-McCarthy and his wife Bernice of Alexandria, VA; three sisters, Maureen Labriola and her husband Christopher of Wakefield, Nancy Pappas and her husband Christo of Townsend and Sheilagh Senior and her husband Kevin of Wakefield; 3 brother's, Patrick J. McCarthy and his wife Josie of Washington State, Daniel B. McCarthy and his wife Valerie of St. Petersburg, FL and Barry A. McCarthy of Melrose; a beloved granddaughter, Logan R. McCarthy of South Portland, ME; eleven nieces and nephews, many relatives and close friends, his mother-in-law, Shirley Caprera of Worcester and a lifelong friend, Joseph Fay of North Conway, NH . He is predeceased by his brother, James R. McCarthy. Mike was born in Gardner, the son of the late, Eugene T. McCarthy and Gloria L. (Richard) McCarthy, moved to Melrose and later to Templeton and had lived in Sterling for seven years. Mike graduated from Melrose High School, Fitchburg State College, Mt. Wachusett Community College, USAF NCO Academy and Certificated in Project Management from Boston University. Mike served in the U.S. Army from 1967 to 1970, serving in the DMZ, South Korea, for two years. He later served in the Massachusetts Air National Guard from1984, retiring with honorable discharge in 2003. Simultaneously, Mike had a diverse 32 year career at Massachusetts Electric/National Grid retiring in 2004. Previously, Mike's employment included Manager, Friendly's, Police Officer of Templeton Police Department, Professional Ski Instructor at Wachusett Mountain, Coach Driver at Wilson Bus Lines, and most recently owned and managed Bead Fiesta Inc. Northeast Bead Shows, MacArts bead and jewelry design business and Bead Fiesta The Shoppe retail store in Sterling. Mike and his wife enjoyed a most diverse and athletic life together. They experienced Rock Climbing where they first met, world travel including mountaineering in South America, hiking to Machu Picchu in Peru, touring Europe and exhibiting with their glass bead art in Japan. Both Mike and his wife were ten year licensed private pilots and sampled skydiving. They also enjoyed hot air balloon chasing in Albuquerque, NM and Mike spent extensive time constructing a wood kayak for his great love of kayaking. Mike's other hobbies included glass bead making, running, hiking, skiing, biking, camping, reading, baking and wintering in Sarasota, FL. Unbeknownst to many friends, Mike was proficient in basket weaving, knitting and crochet in which he won best of show at Sterling Agricultural Fair. Mike was a member of the VFW, International Society of Glass Beadmakers and Boston Chapter of Glass Beadmakers. Mike loved spending time with family, friends, pet cat Macintosh and was known for a warm smile, great wit and was extremely social. His loving personality will long be remembered. Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday, March 26, 2010 in the Miles-Sterling Funeral Home, 100 Worcester Rd., Sterling. A funeral service for Mike will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 27th in the funeral home. Burial will follow in Notre Dame Cemetery, Worcester.     Obituary for Gloria McCarthy
    GARDNER - Gloria Lydia McCarthy, age 93, of Melrose formerly of Gardner, died Wednesday, November 30, 2016 at Woburn Nursing Center in Woburn. Mrs. McCarthy was born January 30, 1923 in Leominster. She is the daughter of the late Theodore and Minnie (Geroud) Richard.

    She grew up in Leominster and graduated from St. Bernard's Central Catholic High School.

    During the war she was employed at Pratt & Whitney in Connecticut.

    She is survived by three daughters: Maureen Labriola and her husband Chris of Wakefield, Nancy J Pappas and her husband Christos of Townsend, Sheilagh J Senior and her husband Kevin of Wakefield, and three sons: Patrick J McCarthy and his wife Josie of Vancouver, Daniel B McCarthy and his wife Valerie of St. Petersburg, FL, Barry A McCarthy of Melrose; one sister: Jeanne Harris and her husband Richard of Leominster; twelve grandchildren: Richard McCarthy, Brian McCarthy, Gill McCarthy, Christopher Labriola, Annie Labriola, Brett Labriola, Tassos Pappas, William Pappas, Victoria Pappas, Nicole Senior, Natalie Senior and Charlie Senior; and five great granddaughters.
    She was predeceased by her husband of 48 years: Eugene T. McCarthy in 1994, by two sons: Michael T. McCarthy and James R. McCarthy; by two brothers: Armand Richard and Dell Richard; and one sister: Blanche Boyden.

    The funeral will be held 12:00 pm on Monday, December 5 at Lamoureux-Fletcher Smith Funeral Home, 105 Central St., Gardner. Burial will follow in St. John Cemetery.
